about

“I can’t speak for every adventurous soul out there, but at least for me, this is the draw of spontaneity: routine and stability can be great, but too much makes your memories blur together or feel dim and muddled. But combatting this isn’t just about traveling the world or skydiving or winning the lottery, because even the most seemingly mundane moments can feel distinct. Staring at a wall, opening your eyes in the morning, or drinking a cup of coffee can all have what I’ve come to think of as ‘color schemes.’ It’s basically the same idea as ‘vibes,’ but it really feels a lot like colors to me, even though I wouldn’t be able to pinpoint exactly what colors make up which moments? On days when I feel like my colors aren’t bright enough or they’re blurry or the contrast is too low, I have to seek out these moments instead of just sitting back and letting them happen. I’ll go on a walk and take a slightly different path or try a new coffee shop or just stare at whatever’s in front of me and try to actually be present with it. Sometimes it’s refreshing to just see something new, whether that’s the view at the top of a mountain or just the underside of your kitchen table. Appreciating the little moments is so important (which is why I absolutely love the #1secondeveryday app even though they made "every day” one word & it really should be two in this case & that irritates me but that’s not the point!!) Anyway, I’ve learned to use the blurry days as reminders to take care of myself, rather than reasons to panic or feel discouraged or question my life. I don’t know what the formula is to gain the perfect colors, vibes, pictures, whatever you want to call these moments. It takes mindfulness, appreciation, and a certain level of alertness, and it’s not always possible. But I think it’s worth fighting for. Did this make any sense? You get it, right? Oh well.“ -@MiaStegner on Instagram, 2/10/19

lyrics

A cold boat ride
Crisp winter air
Mismatched socks
Lights up everywhere
Snow on lashes
Slippery roads
Silver makeup
Solving eyebrow codes

Oh, walk through the memories
Absorb each color scheme
Don't let them blur together
Don't let them form a theme
No, take every photograph
Take them with your mind
Don't let them slip away
There's never never never enough time

Long car rides
Fresh fall air
A book, some tea
A new outfit to wear
Sodas in the mountains
Colors in the trees
Picking berries
Weary coexistence with the bees

Walk through the memories
Absorb each color scheme
Don't let them blur together
Don't let them form a theme
No, take every photograph
Take them with your mind
Don't let them slip away
There's never never never enough time

Swimming with a turtle
Pretzels in the air
Homework, coffee
A new color in my hair
Movie popcorn
Looking at the sky
Standing in the hall
As the people all go by

Oh, walk through the memories
Absorb each color scheme
Don't let them blur together
Don't let them form a theme
No, take every photograph
Take them with your mind
Don't let them slip away
There's never never never enough time

Rabbits under the shed
Hot summer air
Jean shorts, grass stains
Pulling up a chair
Throwing water balloons
Turkey on the sand
Family in a circle
A kitten in my hand

There are a few different ways to change a picture
You can pick a new subject or a new view
You can edit it later on in life
Or change the camera settings, change the angle, or change you

Oh, walk through the memories
Absorb each color scheme
Don't let them blur together
Don't let them form a theme
No, take every photograph
Take them with your mind
Don't let them slip away
There's never never never enough time

Oh, walk through the memories
Absorb each color scheme
Don't let them blur together
Don't let them form a theme
No, take every photograph
Take them with your mind
Don't let them slip away
There's never never never enough time
