Wrote this on instagram when i first shared it: "This song came out of nowhere, and sometimes I forget that it exists. It’s not the song that I’m most proud of, or that I worked the hardest on, but it’s a fun tune and I like the overarching message, so I included it in the album. It’s about recognizing the nature, the animals, the weather, the ‘wild’ in each other and in ourselves. The silly computers behind our foreheads like to create strict categories and binaries and definitions, but the world is far more jumbled up and interconnected than we often give it credit for. These lyrics were inspired by a few lines of imagery I had written for a novel I was working on at the time, and the song grew from there. Like a tree or something. Idk. Oh and the video I made for it was a fun little dive into the world of stock footage and masks and opacity and blend modes lol so that was a fun time too."
lyrics
I feel a thunderstorm warning in my throat, and a flood watch in my eyes
Dandelions are growing in my chest, and in my hands I can see skies
I look around, I see a boy, is he like me?
Yes, there are gray storm clouds where his eyes should be
I look around, I see a girl, is she the same?
Yes, I see fire in her soul, impossible to tame
I feel a thunderstorm warning in my throat, and a flood watch in my eyes
Dandelions are growing in my chest, and in my hands I can see skies
I look around, I find another to compare
Her eyelashes are strands of grass; she leaves tracks behind her like a bear
From fingertips grow butterflies, from each toe sprouts a flower
Every chest holds a creature, though it might change every hour
Curly hair of bamboo plants, mysteries to be unfurled
You and me, we’re intertwined, all part of the same world
I feel a thunderstorm warning in my throat, and a flood watch in my eyes
Dandelions are growing in my chest, and in my hands I can see skies
